This commercial project at KFC East Tāmaki required a foundation system capable of bridging existing underground services while also overcoming areas of soft, uncontrolled fill.
A total of 22 Blade Piles were installed, each designed to achieve a 36-tonne load capacity. The piles transfer structural loads through the weak surface soils and into stronger ground below, creating a stable and reliable foundation system for the new development.
Working within a tight construction site in a busy commercial area presented additional challenges. Blade Pile’s screw piling system allowed the piles to be installed efficiently with minimal vibration, low noise, and limited disruption to surrounding businesses and services.
By using screw piles rather than traditional bored or driven piles, the project team was able to avoid costly excavation while maintaining the required structural performance.
Blade Piles are widely used across New Zealand for commercial foundations where ground conditions, services, or restricted access make traditional piling methods difficult.
