Back down in Wānaka last week and popped by one of our completed jobs, a 3-unit development founded on Blade Piles.
Ground here was challenging, a 2m crust of uncontrolled fill over 5m of highly liquefiable soil, sitting above glacial till. Not exactly ideal conditions for a standard shallow foundation.
Instead of excavating through all of that material and rebuilding with an engineered gravel raft, we screwed Blade Piles through the fill and liquefiable soils and into the solid glacial till below.
Faster, less disruption, same result.
