Rodney Townhouses – Expansive Clay

Rodney Townhouses - Expansive Clay Blade Pile New Zealand

Over half a kilometre of Blade Piles were installed beneath 24 townhouses in Whenuapai, addressing the challenges posed by expansive clay soils. These soils naturally shrink and swell with moisture changes, which can cause traditional foundations and slabs to crack over time.

By suspending the buildings on Blade Piles, the structural loads are transferred past the unstable clay into stable ground below, ensuring the slab remains intact regardless of soil movement. This approach provides long-term protection against cracking, reduces maintenance needs, and gives homeowners confidence in the durability of their homes.

Blade Pile’s screw piling system enabled efficient installation across a large residential development, minimising disruption and avoiding extensive excavation. This project demonstrates how Blade Piles provide a reliable, cost-effective solution for residential builds on challenging soil conditions.
